Installing Artec Studio Across Multiple Windows Accounts

Installing Artec Studio Across Multiple Windows Accounts

This guide will assist you in setting up a PC with several Windows accounts so that each user can access Artec Studio 18.

General Information

Artec scanner licenses and Artec Studio software store license files locally under each Windows user account. These files are located at:
C:\Users\<Windows_account_name>\AppData\Roaming\Artec.
Note: The AppData folder is hidden by default in Windows.

Copying Artec Studio Files

  1. Install Artec Studio using an administrator account or with administrator privileges (see below for detailed steps).
  2. Delete the studio.conf file located at:
    C:\Users\<User1>\AppData\Roaming\Artec\<Artec Studio main version>\
  3. Copy the C:\Users\<User1>\AppData\Roaming\Artec folder, containing all its remaining contents, to the AppData\Roaming folder of the other user accounts (e.g., C:\Users\<UserN>\AppData\Roaming\ where UserN represents User2, User3, etc.). In this context, User1 is the account where Artec Studio is installed, while User2, User3, etc., refer to additional accounts.
  4. Log in to Windows using the <User2> account.
  5. Open the Start menu, type %APPDATA%, and press Enter. If Windows opens C:\Users\<User2>\AppData\Roaming, your setup is correct. If a different folder opens, define the APPDATA system variable and reboot your PC (details below).
  6. Run Artec Installation Center as an administrator (or grant necessary Windows permissions to aic.exe located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Artec\Artec Installation Center).
  7. Run Artec Studio 18 as an administrator (or grant necessary permissions to Artec Studio exe files located at C:\Program Files\Artec).
  8. Log in under the <User3> account and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.

Setting the APPDATA Variable

In some cases, the APPDATA variable needs to be set to ensure Artec Studio can find all necessary files and licenses. The value of this variable should be set as follows:

APPDATA=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

You can find more detailed steps in the image below:

Note: A system reboot is required for changes to the APPDATA variable to take effect.

Installing Artec Studio 18 for Non-Administrator Accounts

If users will be working under regular Windows accounts without administrator privileges, follow these steps:

  1. The installer should first log in using an account with administrator privileges.
  2. Install and activate Artec Studio 18 under this administrator account.
  3. Verify that Artec Installation Center and Artec Studio are running correctly and that the scanner is recognized.
  4. Copy the folder C:\Users\name_of_admin_account\AppData\Roaming\Artec to a location accessible to other Windows accounts.
  5. Log into the regular Windows account where Artec Studio will be used.
  6. Copy the files from step 4 to the C:\Users\regular_account\AppData\Roaming\Artec folder.
  7. Manually create a shortcut for astudio.exe from C:\Program Files\Artec\Artec Studio 18 on your desktop.
  8. At this point, Artec Studio should run normally under the non-administrator account. If additional setup is needed, right-click the shortcut, select the "Compatibility" tab, and enable "Run as administrator."

The following image provides more details on this process:

In some cases, Windows will prompt you for administrator credentials when launching Artec Studio. Simply follow the prompts to grant the necessary permissions.
